The Journey
My path to development wasn't traditional. In my early twenties, I was working a soul-draining call center job, feeling stuck and unsure of my direction. Everything changed when I met my wife, Heather. With her support, I took a leap of faith – quitting my job with no safety net, armed only with a bit of coding experience and a strong design sensibility.
My first break? Updating WordPress blogs for small businesses. What started as a risky move became a passion that has defined my career.
Professional Philosophy
I'm a systems thinker. I believe the best solutions are those that create the right incentives and then step back, empowering people to do great work. This philosophy drives my approach to web development – whether I'm optimizing performance, improving accessibility, or reimagining user experiences.
Technical Expertise
My toolkit spans HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and frameworks like React and WordPress. But I'm not just about writing code – I'm about writing meaningful code. Some highlights:
- Reduced CSS bundle size by 90% through strategic technology transitions
- Transformed a product from zero to AA accessibility compliance
- Transitioned development stacks while removing unnecessary complexity
Accessibility Matters
One of my deepest professional commitments is to accessibility. As I like to say, we're all "temporarily abled" – which means creating inclusive digital experiences isn't just good design, it's a moral imperative.
Life Beyond the Screen
When I'm not crafting digital experiences, you'll find me:
- Floating on Percy Priest Lake
- Catching live music in Nashville
- Cheering for Nashville Soccer Club
- Hanging out with my wife Heather, our 2-year-old son Kit, and our new baby, Ryman
Let's Connect
Interested in collaboration, have a project in mind, or just want to chat about web development? I'm always eager to explore new challenges and create impactful digital solutions. Deeply, unironically adoring CSS one line of code at a time.
